2022 Smurf Review: Brainy Smurfway

Are you familiar with the 2021 cartoon series of the Smurfs? If not Brainy Smurfway #20834 may make little sense to you. Don’t worry, I had no idea what a Smurfway was either. A Smurfway is a two wheel vehicle, similar to the human version of a Segway. Who else but Brainy Smurf would use this mode of transport.

Brainy Smurf is wearing black glasses and leans on his Smurfway, while giving a wave. Cute as it is, I would like to have seen Brainy Smurf on the Smurfway. Maybe the creators found this way too difficult. There is nothing worse than unstable Smurf that can’t be displayed. Also mine my figurine looks too skinny, I prefer a Smurf that looks more normal.

In my view, Brainy Smurfway and Smurf Girl Blossom will be the most popular. Largely due to the cartoon series aimed at the younger generation. The idea Brainy Smurf travels on a wooden made Smurfway creates a new level of interest.

If you buy Brainy Smurfway in its original bag, can you check the name for me. Mine had the name Smurf Segway. Was there an issue with Schleich using Segway in it’s name?

2022 Smurf Review: Fireman

We kick off Schleich’s 2022 new releases with Fireman #20833. For 2022 Schleich released six new Smurfs. The Fireman is wearing a distinctive red fireman’s helmet and yellow jacket with one hand resting on his hip.

For those who have been collecting for a while, the fireman concept is not new to the Smurfs. First as a Super Smurf in 1982 and as regular in 2000. However, the 2022 Fireman offers a difference to past versions. The big difference is the helmet.

I really like the helmet with the gold stripe down the centre. It appears a lot of thought went into the design and making of the helmet. Though in my opinion, the jacket is lacking in design and looks ordinary. Where are the Fireman Smurf’s equipment or a tool-belt? Schleich also kept the white trousers but I think was intentional.

Like other Smurfs made in Romania their faces have similar features such as their eyes painted together and ears that stick out. Again I don’t mind this because at least they look like Smurfs. Back in 2017 the Smurfs looked very strange.

In summing up, would I buy another Fireman if I had the opportunity? Probably not, mainly because it’s not striking enough to display. If I was kid, I would probably appreciate it more.

Review: Devil Smurf #20213

Whenever a Smurf had a moral dilemma in the cartoon series, Devil and Angel Smurfs would appear. It was an easy way to show good and bad decisions to children.

In the US, Devil and Angel Smurfs were sold as a pair by Applause in 1985. On posters, their names were Conscience Devil and Conscience Angel.

Schleich also had their variants of Devil and Angel Smurfs, sold between 1985 to 2009. Referred to as Little Angel and Little Devil.

The Devil is in the details

The Applause variant of Devil is a dark red mould with orange skin, white horns and black wings. Most considered this one as rare because it only sold for possibly one year.

Schleich’s variation of Devil is a pink/red mould with white horns and black wings.

A friend of mine tells me there are 18 variations of Devil Smurf. I believe this consists of colour and marking variations. However, he takes his collecting more seriously than most.

In my opinion, I prefer Devil than Angel because it’s unlike any other Smurf. The pink/red mould can vary in colour depending when or where it was made.
